Lash Line Enhancement vs Classic Eyeliner vs Specialty Eyeliners

What is Lash Line Enhancement?

Lash Line Enhancement is a subtle form of permanent eyeliner that involves implanting pigment directly into the lash line to create the illusion of fuller, darker lashes. Unlike traditional eyeliner, this technique does not sit above the lashes—it enhances the natural lash base for a soft, eye-opening effect.

This is perfect for clients who want a refreshed, defined look without the appearance of heavy makeup. It’s also an ideal option for those with sparse lashes, sensitive eyes, or who simply want to streamline their morning routine.

Results typically lasts 3-5 years with proper care, and touch-ups can be done to maintain intensity. At BeYOUtiful Ink Studio + Academy, we focus on precision and symmetry to bring out your eyes in the most natural and flattering way.

What is Classic Eyeliner?

Classic Eyeliner is a timeless cosmetic tattoo that defines and enhances the eyes by adding pigment just above the lash line. It can be customized in thickness and style—from soft and natural to bold and striking—depending on your desired look.

This service is perfect for clients who wear eyeliner daily and want a more polished, smudge-free alternative. Whether you prefer a delicate line or a more dramatic wing, we tailor each application to suit your eye shape and personal style.

Results can last 3-5 years or more depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Wake up with beautifully defined eyes every day—no pencil required.

What is the Specialty Eyeliners?

Specialty Eyeliners are customized designs that go beyond the classic line, offering a bold or artistic twist to traditional eyeliner. From soft wings and shaded liners to double lines or colored accents, this service is all about making a statement while still enhancing your natural eye shape.

Ideal for clients who love creativity and want something more than just basic eyeliner, Specialty Eyeliners allow for complete personalization. Our experienced artists at BeYOUtiful Ink Studio will work with you to design a look that reflects your personality and elevates your overall style.

These artistic enhancements typically last 2.4 years with proper aftercare and are perfect for beauty lovers who want long-lasting, expressive eyes.

Which Eyeliner Style Is Right for Me?

Choosing the right eyeliner style depends on your desired look, eye shape, lifestyle, and personal preferences. At BeYOUtiful Ink Studio, we offer a range of eyeliner techniques to suit every client:

  • Lash Line Enhancement is perfect if you want a subtle, natural look. This technique adds definition to your eyes by darkening the lash line without the appearance of obvious makeup—ideal for everyday wear or those new to permanent cosmetics.

  • Classic Eyeliner provides a more defined look along the lash line, similar to traditional eyeliner. It’s great for clients who regularly wear eyeliner and want to save time in their daily routine.

  • Specialty Eyeliners are for those looking to make a statement. This includes soft wings, shaded liner, or dual-toned effects that enhance your eye shape with a bolder, more dramatic finish.

Not sure which style is best? Send us a photo of your eyes to info@beyoutiful.ink for a personalized virtual consultation. We’ll help you choose the perfect eyeliner style to enhance your natural beauty and suit your lifestyle.

IMPORTANT PRE-CARE

  • Stop using any skin thinners or lighting products (vitamin A, vitamin C serums/creams, hydroquinone, glycolic acids, and exfoliation products) on the brow area 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
  • Any waxing or brow shaping should be done one month before or 2 weeks after your appointment.
  • If you tint your brows, tint them at least one week prior to the procedure.
  • Cosmetic Botox or fillers should be done 2 weeks prior or 2 weeks after.
  • Do not consume alcohol, caffeine, or take any blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, niacin) 48 hours before your procedure. This will cause excess bleeding and may affect your results.
  • If you typically fill in your brows, you should come in with your brow makeup on so I can see what you are used to. This is especially important for clients who desire a specific brow shape. If you are open to suggestions, I am happy to help design a custom brow to personally suit you.
  • Do not wear eye makeup if it is waterproof to your appointment. If you have eyeliner that you typically wear and it is not waterproof, you can come in with your eyeliner drawn on so I can see how you typically wear it. Do not wear mascara.
  • If you wish to wear your lip color to your appointment, you may do so as long as it is not a lip stain.
  • You may experience hypersensitivity and more pain around or during your menstrual cycle.
  • We will not be able to tattoo over any blemishes, sores, or raised moles in or around the brow, eye, or lip area.

AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

Your skin will be temporarily sensitized after the procedure, and it’s important to follow these instructions for the next 10 days to support proper healing and reduce the risk of infection:

  • Avoid applying makeup for at least 7–10 days following your treatment. If you choose to wear makeup within the first 5 days, please note that you do so at your own risk, as it may interfere with the healing process.

  • Healing typically takes up to 10 days. It is completely normal for minor scabbing to appear on the treated area. These scabs should fall off naturally over the course of a few days. Do not pick or pull at them, as this can lead to pigment loss in those areas.

  • If excessive fading occurs due to improper aftercare, an additional charge may apply to rework the area.

Following these guidelines will help ensure the best possible results from your treatment.

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT

Following your eyeliner tattoo treatment, it is completely normal to experience some color fading and patchy areas during the first two weeks. As your skin continues to heal, the pigment will begin to resurface. For most clients, this happens around 30 days, but it can take up to 8–12 weeks for mature skin types. The final outcome will appear soft and subtle.

Aftercare Instructions (First 10 Days):

  • Cleanse the area gently using the eye wash provided in your aftercare kit.
  • Apply a small amount of ointment twice a day—about 1/2 a grain of rice total, split between both eyes.
  • With eyes closed, use the gentle soap included in your kit and warm water to cleanse the area using clean fingertips only.
  • Blot dry carefully—do not rub with a towel.
  • With eyes closed, gently massage the ointment in using the provided microswabs for 10 seconds.
  • Blot off any excess ointment to prevent build-up. The area should not feel oily or greasy—allow the skin to breathe.
  • Sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first few nights to help minimize swelling.

Touch-Up Timeline:

Touch-ups are typically scheduled between 8–16 weeks after your initial session and will be set up at your initial appointment. This allows your skin to complete a full healing cycle and gives you time to determine if any color has noticeably faded. Expect 30–40% fading as part of the natural healing process.

Every client heals differently. While some clients may not need a touch-up, others may benefit from one to perfect the result. If you feel an additional session would enhance your results, please feel free to book a touch-up appointment.

Your comfort and satisfaction are our priority—we’re here to support you through every step of your healing journey.

CAUTIONS

  • Do not use creams or makeup on the treated area(s).
  • Avoid facial treatments such as eyelash tinting, perming, or lifting.
  • Avoid abrasive materials such as rough towels or similar.

FAQ's

Permanent Eyeliner is a great way to enhance your eyes. Not only does it eliminate the need to apply your eyeliner everyday it can give your eyes the appearance of being bigger and brighter. Pigment is implanted into the skin along the lash line and depending on the style you are desiring, can be brought onto the eyelid a bit to give a more dramatic eyeliner look.

It is preferred that you send me a photo of how you currently wear your eyeliner. Sometimes the desired look you are wanting is not achievable. Once you are in the studio a design will be drawn based on your desires as long as it is not outside the area we can tattoo.

Permanent Eyeliners can define your your, give you the appearance of larger brighter eyes, your makeup will not rub off or smudge during the day. If you have poor vision or have unsteady hands having permanent eyeliner procedures can eliminate crooked lines or the look or sloppy work. It can define and fill in between lashes that are blonde, grey or sparse. Sometimes clients have allergies to cosmetic products or have Alopecia, this may be the answer for you.

You must be 18 years or older to receive Permanent Makeup in the state of MN.

No! Beautiful by Design, LLC does NOT perform cosmetic tattooing on pregnant or nursing women. There is not enough evidence proving it is not harmful to you or your unborn baby.

Eyeliners vary in pain for each client. As with all permanent makeup procedure no clients reaction is the same as another’s. Eyes are more of a psychological problem than a pain problem. Many people are under the impression that eyes are the most painful of all the permanent makeup procedure but that isn’t the case. Most clients have little to no discomfort and are able to go about their daily activities immediately after the procedure. A pre-numbing agent is applied after the initial outline is done and a secondary numbing agent is used periodically throughout the remaining procedure.

All eyeliner clients should avoid working out, drinking alcohol, taking vitamins or supplements that thin your blood, unless prescribed for 24 hours prior to your appointment, Stay out of the sun and tanning beds for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to your appointment. Stop smoking, clients who smoke will not have good results with this type of service.

There will be swelling. The swelling may last up to 48 hours.  The color will appear darker the first week. This will gradually lighten during the complete healing process. No need to go into hiding. It is recommended that you do not drive for at least 8 hours after the enhancement.

Please stop using any and all lash serums for a minimum of 1 month prior to your permanent eyeliner procedure. These types of serums are stimulants and they will make your eyelids too fragile and vascular for cosmetic tattooing. As a result, your eyelids will bleed and bruise.  After your eyeliner procedure is completed,  including your touch-up, you should wait 4 weeks to start your serum usage again. Which means you should be off the serum a total of 4 months minimum.

It is normal to experience some swelling and tenderness immediately following your procedure. This usually subsides within a few hours and can be treated with the gel packs you are sent home with. The first week following your treatment, the pigment will appear much darker than how it will appear once the eyes have healed. During the first 7-10 days post procedure, the skin naturally exfoliates and sheds. During weeks 4-8 when the skin completes healing, you will see the pigment become more visible. A perfecting session should be scheduled 8-16 weeks after your first initial appointment and is necessary in order to achieve that richness of color, achieve symmetry, and density in the shape.

As with all tattoos the pigment will remain in your skin forever, but will fade over time.  I usually recommend that after your perfecting session you should return within 3-5 years. Most procedures last beyond this time but clients experience healing results differently. Everyone’s body and their healing process is not the same. What may last 10 years for one client may only last a year for another.

This is a two-step appointment process. For best results, all clients need two sessions. The second session should be scheduled 8-16 weeks after the initial procedure to perfect the shape, color, and density of the brows. Please understand that eyebrow color intensity will be significantly darker and sharper within the first few days of the procedure, but fade significantly (approximately 30-50%) over the healing period. (2-4+ weeks)

Touch up appointments are optional. We suggest that if you want to maintain your eyeliner so that it always looks its best, plan on scheduling a touch up in 3-5 years.
