I’m Kelly Yetzer, owner and artist behind BeYOUtiful Ink in Little Falls, Minnesota. My work includes natural cosmetic tattooing, scar-related restorative artistry and specialized 3D areola restoration following breast surgery and reconstruction. But the technique itself has never been the most important part of this work to me. The person sitting in my chair is.
I never want the tattoo to be the first thing you notice. I want you to notice the person.
Permanent makeup is permanent enough that I believe it deserves more thought than following whatever happens to be trending right now. My approach is intentionally conservative. I want your permanent makeup to complement your features rather than compete with them.
My cosmetic work includes Nano Brows, Powder/Ombré Brows, Combination Brows, Permanent Eyeliner, Lip Blush and selected restorative lip tattooing. Technique selection depends on the person—their skin, features, existing pigment, goals and desired healed result.
Some of the most meaningful work I perform has very little to do with traditional beauty. Restorative artistry may involve 3D areola restoration, previous areola tattoo correction, scar-related restorative work, scar camouflage, stretch marks and other appropriately selected concerns. Sometimes pigment is appropriate, sometimes a pigment-free approach may be considered, sometimes the tissue needs more time, and sometimes I will recommend that we do not tattoo it at all.
3D areola restoration became an important focus of my advanced education because the work combines art, anatomy, color, restraint, technical skill and an enormous amount of trust. I have pursued specialized education in restorative and areola tattoo artistry, including advanced one-on-one training focused on reconstructed anatomy and realistic 3D areola techniques.
I am a Licensed Minnesota Tattoo Technician. “Cosmetic + Restorative Tattoo Artist” describes the work I perform; it is not intended to imply that tattooing is medical treatment.
Beautiful work is not enough if the decisions behind it are not responsible. There may be times when I recommend postponing an appointment, ask you to speak with your healthcare professional, or tell you that I do not believe a procedure is appropriate.
I wanted to create a space where clients did not feel pushed through an appointment, where questions were welcome, natural results were not treated as boring, restorative clients were given time, and saying “not yet” could be considered just as professional as saying yes.
My path to this work was not a perfectly straight line. I have lived enough life to understand that people rarely arrive in our chairs as blank canvases. That perspective has shaped the way I work: I do not believe my job is to make you into someone else. It is to listen carefully enough to understand what you are actually asking me to help you with.
Outside the studio, I am happiest spending time with the people I love. I also enjoy gardening, crocheting, cooking, reading and spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. I have had a lot of different chapters before becoming a tattoo artist, and I think every one of them taught me something useful about people—mostly, to listen.
BeYOUtiful Ink welcomes appropriate referrals from breast surgeons, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, oncology teams and other healthcare professionals. Kelly’s role remains within tattoo artistry; medical diagnosis, treatment and clearance remain with the healthcare team.
